No Justice, No Peace by Lee McKnight

We at the Love Portland Group believe that housing is a human right and that stable housing creates opportunities for health, wealth, and happiness. We have always worked to defend the right of anyone to pursue homeownership and strived to create an environment of inclusion and respect.

I want to take this opportunity today to say to our Black family, friends, and neighbors: we hear you, we believe you, and we understand that this has not been enough. We are deeply sorry for the pain and trauma you have experienced and understand that we have a role in this by upholding the system that is causing this pain. We don't want to be part of a society that systematically devalues people due to skin color, but that is what we have done.

As the great Maya Angelou said, "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better." We pledge to dig deep into our psyche and cure this disease that has infected us. We pledge to be not just not racist but anti-racist.  I hope you all feel free to hold us accountable and to join us in doing better.

COVID-19 Weekly Market Update by Lee McKnight

As we would expect, the pending sales continue to outpace the new listings in the lower price points, even during what is usually a heavy listing season for us.

Properties listed under $500K that are solid are continuing to see multiple offers and oftentimes bid way up beyond list price. The middle range of $500-$1M is starting to catch up and the pending trend line is about to surpass the new listings. As far as the $1-2M market goes, in a surprise move, the pendings outshot the new listings by quite a bit.

My guess is that the phone calls I am getting from folks who want to live in Portland now that they are working remotely and don't have to live in their dense and expensive cities is what is causing that interest from out of town well-heeled buyers in our market. So next time you think we are dense and expensive, remember it's all relative!

Supporting the Portland We Love by Lee McKnight

What kind of city do we want to live in when the swell of the pandemic recedes? We believe that Portland would not be Portland without the rich community of independent businesses we know and love. Each week we will let you know how you can support a couple of the businesses we feel are part of the fabric of Portland:

Boys Fort: This one is a twofer, you can support a local business, and American Made goods! Boys Fort is a curated treasure trove of giftable items. See for yourself via their video tours. Buy something cool for someone you love, or a gift certificate so they can choose for themselves.

Cheese Bar: We know, we had you at cheese, but there is so much more available at this magical cheese and specialty food emporium. Along with your dairy fix, you can pick up wine, beer, tinned fish, olive oil, pasta, coffee, etc. You can place orders online for curbside pickup, or bank a gift certificate for later when you're ready for a socially distant picnic on Mt Tabor.

We are so proud to share that Hasson Company Realtors (the brokerage we are part of) is the top-performing brokerage in the Pacific Northwest this year. We have held this rank since 2006!

Through a combination of industry experience and local knowledge, we have secured Hasson’s position as the area’s leading real estate company. We are so proud to be part of such a dedicated team!

A Big Step in the Right Direction by Lee McKnight

metro 26210.jpg

Metro Ballot Measure 26-210 passed in Tuesday's election!! Along with hundreds of other businesses and organizations in the Metro area, we sponsored this measure because of its considered and inclusive approach to addressing one of the most serious issues facing our community: housing insecurity.

Measure 26-210 will raise funds to address homelessness without negatively impacting low-and-middle-income families. Yay! Better still, plans for utilizing the funds are rooted in expertise gathered from over 150 organizations, experts, and community leaders who focus on homelessness every day.

We are excited to see such broad support for a collaborative, evidence-based approach to taking care of some of the most vulnerable residents in our communities. If you have questions for us about this measure please reach out.

The trend of rising pending sales continues, led most strongly by the under $1M price range, and the Eastside. New inventory is still lagging, and this is leading to prices increasing and buyers struggling to get offers accepted that are not aggressive either in price or terms.

Mortgage availability has stabilized, and the timeframe for closing properties remains around 30 days, even with the boom in refinancing, as lenders are prioritizing new sales.
